Lacquer and Kintsugi
Saraha
Having doubts about the consumer society, I am working as a restorer in Kyushu, where many pottery producing areas are gathered, with my role of "fixing" following "making, selling, and using".
I would like many people to know the traditional Japanese technique "Kintsugi" that not only repairs as a function but also adds new beauty to the repaired marks. "Saraha" means "fix" in Arabic. Not only does it fix what's broken, it also means repairing relationships. It also means happiness.

Maya Higuchi
Born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1981. Since childhood, he has been fond of wood products and is interested in woodworking.
2005 Graduated from Kanazawa College of Art, Department of Crafts, Department of Lacquer
Completed the lacquer art major at the Graduate School of Crafts, Kanazawa College of Art in 2007. Started repairing with Kintsugi.
2012 Dispatched to Egypt as an international volunteer from the JICA International Cooperation Agency.
Support women's social advancement activities by handicrafts.
In 2014, engaged in repairs at an art antique restoration workshop in Kyoto. Repair more than 300 points
Participated in the launch of Kintsugi Kobo in Kyoto in 2017
Returned home after giving birth in 2018, became independent (living in Fukuoka)
